Это фестиваль с шествиями, ярмарками и семейными ужинами. Традиционное приветствие "Shubo Nabobarsho" - "С Новым годом". Праздничный Мангал Шобхаятры организован в Бангладеш. В 2016 году ЮНЕСКО объявила этот праздник, организованный Университетом Дакки, национальным достоянием и внесла в репрезентативный список нематериального культурного наследия человечества. Не смотря на то, что разрешенные возраста для брака женщин 18 лет, и для мужчин 21 год, в Бангладеш процветают ранние браки. С 2017 года правительство утвердило разрешение для ранних браков детей "при особых обстоятельствах", в то время, как около 30 миллионов девочек были выданы замуж до 18 и до 15 лет. В Бангладеш самый высокий уровень сексуального насилия детей, что часто происходит в их семьях. "Наказанием" для насильника является то, что он должен жениться на ребенке, которого изнасиловал. А вообще, этот день традиционно начинают с новой книги, очищающей старые. Певцы исполняют традиционные песни, приветствуя новый год. Люди любят классические игры в classical jatra. Люди носят праздничное платье с женщинами, вплетающими в свои волосы цветы. Особенно популярны бело-красные комбинации цветов. Праздничные угощения, как правило, состоит из panta bhat (вымоченный в воде rice), ilish vaja (жаренная рыба hilsa), и различных специально приготовленных bharta (паста).
